Antigen test
What is an antigen test?
Antigen test is a rapid test to detect the presence of viral antigen in the mucus membrane (in this case the nose). The results are ready within 15 minutes. A rapid antigen test is not as accurate as a PCR test but is accepted when traveling to certain destinations (please visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more information regarding your specific destination).
How accurate is the test?
Covid-19 antigen tests are supposed to be both sensitive and specific. The sensitivity of a test determines the possibility of a positive test result if you actually are positive. The specificity of a test determines the possibility of a negative result if you actually are negative.
- Sensitivity = The probability of getting a positive test result if you’re actually carrying the disease.
- Specificity = The probability of a negative test result of you’re not carrying the disease.
Our antibody tests has a sensitivity of 97,1 % and a specificity of 99,6 %, which means that they meet the requirements of The Public Health Agency of Sweden.
How does the antibody test work?
A swab (a flexible stick with a soft tip) is inserted approximately 4 cm into your nostril. The swab is then rotated, thereby swabbing the mucus membrane. The same procedure is repeated in the other nostril to make sure enough respiratory material is collected to be used in the analysis. This respiratory material is then analysed in order to detect presence of viral antigen and the results are ready within 15 minutes.
After the test you will receive a medical certificate and a copy sent by e-mail, signed and verified by a licensed physician. Please observe! In order to get a certificate, a passport number is needed.
